For many years the most popular offering in my business was my Soul Vision Board Workshops. I mentored hundreds of people from all around Australia on how to create vision boards and get clear on what they truly wanted to create in life.
A Vision Board is a visual representation of what you want to call in and experience in your life. It can be filled with images and words that represent desires, goals, aspirations and experiences you want to attract. Creating a vision board is a manifesting ritual of focusing your creative energy, imagination and intent in a specific way that plants seeds of potential into your life.
When I first started making vision boards for myself they actually never worked. I kept getting so frustrated and questioned the effectiveness of the process. Eventually I realised the failure rate was because I kept putting images on the board for things that I THOUGHT I wanted, rather than what my heart & soul truly yearned for.
When creating we can’t just create from our mind, you must create in alignment with your HEART — the seat of your soul. Our minds tend to be focused on what we WANT. Whereas the heart/soul is more focused on what we truly NEED to embody love and our highest potential.
The heart’s needs are elegant, wise and soul based. The essence of what the soul wants rarely change. Whereas in comparison some of our mind’s wants are complicated, they change all the time and often are not really required. The mind tends to run lots of fear based stories and limited belief systems that keep us stuck from growing.
So it is vital when we want to make a change in our lives that we un-tangle the old fear based stories that play in our minds that keep us stuck.
It is not enough just to stick down some pretty pictures down on cardboard. To make a vision board that actually works you need to get the limiting fears of the mind out of the way and create space for the main magic ingredient: SOUL.
In discovering this I created a very powerful ritual to clear fear and heal the inner saboteur that resists change. It is a deeply healing and transformative journey to bring the mind and heart into creative alignment. In many ways this ritual became THE most powerful process of the day, potentially even more so than the boards themselves. Students would often have major life break-through’s, ah-ha moments and free themselves of old pain & patterns that had been holding them back for the majority of their lives.
You can find that Transform Your Inner Bully guided audio ritual in my online shop here.
Once the fear was cleared out of their minds they were then free to create amazing soul-fueled vision boards that were in alignment with what they truly wanted. It was so common that students would come in with a shoebox full of images of all the things they THOUGHT they wanted, do the Transform Your Inner Bully ritual and then totally change what they wanted to put on the board and call in!
I highly recommend if you are ready to make yourself a vision board, then take yourself through my Transform your inner bully ritual to really support your creative process.
So what are my secrets for creating a vision board with soul? Gather these magical ingredients, take on the points that feel good to you and then mix, stir and create with love using the potent SOUL-FUL recipe below.
Soul Vision Board Recipe For Success
1. Have a photo of yourself on the board.
Yes.. YOU!! You are the key ingredient so you need to be ON the board. This way when you look at the board you will see yourself surrounded by all these amazing desires you are calling in, it will personalize it. It breaks my heart when I see so many vision boards missing the KEY ingredient within them, the person who made it!!
Feel free to also place important people in your life on there too, ie. your partner, kids, pets. Its another way of really personalizing your board and making it feel real.
2. FEEL the images, don’t think too much about them. The images you place on the board need to invoke FEELING.
Look for images that trigger physical responses within your body. Buzzing, tingling, a womb heat, a pull of the heart or just a deep knowing of YES YES YES. You will know when you find the right images because you will say things like “oooh” “aaah” “whoa!” “LOVE!”.
You want images that make you FEEL something. I witnessed many times over the years absolute magic occur when someone would put something down that didn’t even make logical sense but for whatever reason it FELT good to their body. Often then in the coming weeks, months and years I would get an ecstatic email with them sharing how it had manifested and that the image that made “no sense” at the time was now key in an amazing experience or life development.
3. Only put things on the board you REALLY want and that you’re actually READY for.
I know this will sound obvious but you must really, really want what you are placing on the board. Only put things on the board that EXCITE you, that create FEELING in your body, don’t put down things because you think you should, or because it fits a social standard of what a person should strive for. Think outside the box. Tap into your own uniqueness, your own talents and gifts. This is your one life, you will never be YOU again. What do YOU want to create and experience???
Also be sure to put things on the board that you are actually READY to experience. ie. Don’t put down a photo of a baby if you aren’t actually ready to become a Mum.
4. Don’t limit yourself
Many of us don’t allow ourselves to want what we truly want, because we get stuck on “how” it’s going to manifest. The vision board process is about planting the seeds; you don’t have to then micromanage how those seeds grow. Often in the workshops I would constantly find myself walking around looking at my students boards and just giving them a gentle or firm encouragement to dream BIGGER. Your board is your chance to be wild, bold, let go of inhibitions, restrictions and play in the field of your imagination. There is no limits!!!
5. Mix up the board with specific goals/desires and also more open and spacious feeling states.
You can have specific images of what you want; eg. Specific car, a course you want to study, a specific location for travel destination. However for things like partners, life purpose, I would highly recommend to find a symbol that represents the pure ESSENCE, the FEELING state of what you desire.
So for example say you want lots of money? Sit with WHY, go deeper than just the surface level – what would lots of money give you? How would lots of money make you FEEL? Would lots of money make you feel POWERFUL? FREE? SAFE? SUPPORTED? Well then find images & symbols that represent THOSE feeling states. This way you open up the channels to the universe being able to deliver you that essence, in many forms – not just the limited structured your mind is expecting or guessing right now.
6. Focus your board on a 12 – 18 month timeline.
I found the best boards where when people focused on a 12 – 18 month time line. Not that things would then manifest specifically in that window, but in terms of desires that time-frame would stop conflicting desires ending up on the board. It kept things quite clear and focused.
I realized with my earlier boards I had a really mixed time line where I was trying to squish everything that I wanted from life on ONE board. The main example of this I can share is that I had intentions of Adventure, spontaneity and exploring the world on the same board as “settling down and having a family”. Those two desires were clearly in conflict with each other, so nothing actually happened. Once I surrendered the idea of settling down and having a family for the far future and took those images off the board and kept adventure, learning and travel on the board for the PRESENT then all these synchronistic opportunities and money to travel flowed into my life quite effortlessly.
7. Your vision board needs to be UNIQUE TO YOU.
You want to look at it and see yourself; your deepest dreams and desires. Everyone can place down the mansion, lots of money, sporty car, handsome or gorgeous partner and amazing travel destinations. The standard consumerism “mc lifestyle dream” that many of us have been programmed with from a young age. But if you had all that would you really be happy and fulfilled? What is TRULY your desires? What stirs your soul? What excites you? What part of the world calls to your soul? What type of house would really be a HOME to you? What is the essence of a partner for you? What do you want to learn about? Experience? What service would you love to provide for the world? What legacy do you want to share?
8. A WARNING. (what you SHOULDN’T have on your board!)
Be very aware and conscious of the intention and language you are calling in. Really look at the images properly. Your subconscious and the universe does not compute “don’t”, “not” or “no”. It only taps into the core essence.
Keep focused on the positive, growth states and don’t call in fear. For example, say you have a lot of debt you want to clear, if you write or have images that show “no debt” or “debt free” … that still holds the essence of “debt”, so that’s what your calling in. So change it to “I have plenty of money”, “Financial Freedom” “I am abundant across all levels” “I have lots of money in a happy, healthy way” “I have lots of money to do whatever I want, whenever I want”, etc.
If you choose to have celebrities or famous people on your board really feel into that person and their energy and what they represent, is it really in alignment with what you want to call in? Be careful! I tend to find stock images of people that you don’t know but are conveying a specific emotion or feeling state are more powerful!
9. A physical board is better than a digital one.
There is amazing technology available these days with pinterest, canva, graphic design programs and actual vision board programs where you can make a vision board with the click of a mouse. These are amazing, don’t get me wrong and will be effective but I still truly believe that the physical ritual and process of actually creating a board, printing out the photos you like, making cuttings from magazines, gluing it all down with your hands, etc is more potent. For one it takes longer, so you spend more time focusing and feeling into the process and two, you have made a PHYSICAL, TANGIBLE object… you are GROUNDING your desires into something solid.
10. Once you have made your board put it somewhere you can see and work with it.
It’s great (especially after you have just made the board) to put it somewhere that you can see it daily. Work with it by meditating with it and use it to set daily intentions and objectives. You can check in weekly or monthly and look at the board to see if the choices you are making in your life and how you are investing your time and energy is actually calling in the things you want, or pushing them further away. The Board serves as a reminder of what you truly want from life. When you are confused or lost – look at your board, use it as a MAP to direct you of what direction to go and to make choices of how you are choosing to spend your time.
A final note…..
Trust in the Process.
After making your board start to watch your regular thought patterns, if you get new ideas, urges, inspiration – FOLLOW THEM. Start to set things into motion – go test drive the car, go to open for inspections for that home, accept social invitations, sign up to that new course. It’s not just enough to stick the images down; you need to start moving your energy and life towards your desires literally.
The Creation Process is a co-creative dance between ACTION and SURRENDER. Of going after what you want, doing what you need to, making it happen, pushing yourself beyond comfort zones to make opportunities and also surrendering, being, trusting, letting go, patience, magic and creating space what you have asked for.
A mantra I would often give my vision board students was this:
“I have to remind myself that the HOW is not up to me. All I have to do is focus on WHAT I want and stop focusing on where it is”
And remember….. NOTHING HAPPENS THE WAY WE IMAGINE IT WILL
Did you find this helpful? Have any fun or amazing stories about how your vision boards have manifested? I would love to hear from you in the comments.
I no longer run my Soul Vision Board Workshops as I have launched a brand new creation process working with womb consciousness which you can learn about in my new workshop Creation.
